Jesus accused his hearers of honouring God with their lips, not their hearts. Lips are where food and drink goes from outside to inside – our lips are the boundary between in and out. The Pharisees were particularly focused on what was allowed to go into a person. They were also focused on the boundary between who was in, and out, of God’s people. If we’re going to follow Jesus, we need to develop a heart for God.

Listen to the sermon preached by the Revd Bryce Amner on Sunday 2 September 2018.
