Most sermons on the transfiguration fall into one of two categories. They focus on the disciples, and “mountaintop experiences”. Or they focus on Jesus, and how the transfiguration shows that he was far more than merely human. But neither of these approaches deal adequately with what Peter says. Peter has been reading Zechariah, and he recognises that this vision means history itself is drawing to a close.
